There are certain events in your life that stick out in your memory, events that maybe change your world. For me one of those events took place in January 1976 at the Afan Lido. A couple of us from my church youth group had been persuaded to buy tickets for a gospel concert at the …
I’m told that a little some time ago that Bonnie Tyler was having a quiet drink with friends one evening in Mumbles. She was interrupted by someone she didn’t know. That someone walked up to her and asked her, ’Are you still singing a bit these days?’ I suppose Bonnie could have said that she …
After all the build-up it’s finally here, today, The Radio One Biggest Weekend comes to Swansea. For the next 2 days Swansea’s Singleton Park will be the star of the show on BBC TV and Radio. Some of the world’s biggest pop stars will be heading to this city by the bay. Some artists …
This week I’ve thinking a lot about 1978. The reason is that next week Dean Friedman, the legendary American singer songwriter, comes to Swansea to perform the whole of his classic album ‘Well, well said the rocking chair’. Holy Week took me a bit by surprise this year. It was only when someone mentioned it over Sunday lunch last week that we realised it was Palm Sunday. That’s the trouble with Easter. It’s not like Christmas when you have a fixed date every year. Easter really is a moveable feast. The formula gets …
I think we all agree that Wales is the best place in the world to live. So if the recent news that Mumbles is the best place to live in Wales is true, then Mumbles is actually the best place to live in the world! Early morning Mumbles I suppose we all knew that Swansea …
This week I was told the story about the 3 bricklayers. They were all pretty much doing the same thing with bricks and mortar. When asked what he was doing the first bricklayer looked at the person asking questions as if they were daft. ‘Well, isn’t it obvious, I’m laying bricks’ said the bricklayer and …
